Who can apply?
Anyone who makes things about dev tools — videos, blog posts, threads, podcasts, livestreams, newsletters, courses. We approve based on the quality of the work, not the size of the audience. If you're early in your creator journey but the work is real, we want to talk.
How do I get paid?
When you're approved, we ask for your preferred payout method (PayPal, Wise, ACH, or Stripe — whichever fits where you are). Commissions accrue per paid invoice; we record payouts manually once your balance crosses the minimum. Payment threshold and cadence depend on your region; details land in your onboarding email.
What if my audience is small?
Apply anyway. Halopen rewards specificity over volume — a 2,000-follower X account that talks about Claude Code workflows can convert better than a 200,000-follower general-tech channel. We read every application and weigh fit, not headcount.
When do I get paid the first time?
Commission accrues the moment a referred customer's payment clears Stripe. To protect both sides from refund-window risk, the first 30 days after a payment are "pending"; after that the commission becomes payable. We send payouts when your payable balance crosses the threshold for your payout method.
Do I need US tax documents to participate?
Only if you're a US tax resident earning above the IRS reporting threshold (currently $600/year) — at which point we'll need a W-9. Outside the US, you may need a W-8BEN depending on your country's tax treaty with the US. The onboarding email covers this in detail.
Can I lose my account?
Yes — for any of: misrepresenting your audience or self-clicking your own link to inflate referrals; running paid ads on Halopen-branded keywords (which competes with our own ads); spamming forums or comment sections with your link; or anything that would feel sketchy if a customer saw it. We'd rather have 50 creators we trust than 500 we don't.
